What Is Level 3 First Aid at Work?
You can start at Level 3 without taking Level 1 or 2 first.
‘First Aid at Work’ is a Level 3 qualification. You can take it without completing Level 1 or Level 2 First Aid courses first.
You do not need a medical background. Your trainer demonstrates the skills and gives you time to practise.
Full First Aid at Work (FAW) has three days of learning. Blended Learning combines 2 days online and 1 day of practical training.
What Does “Level 3” Mean?
Level 3 describes the knowledge and skills you learn. It is not a third course you must work up to: you can start here without taking Level 1 or Level 2.
The course level does not tell you who issues the certificate. If your employer has named a particular qualification, tell us before booking so we can explain the certificate options.
What Will I Learn on the FAW Course?
You learn how to assess an incident, get help and give First Aid while waiting for the emergency services. The course includes:

Who Needs the Full First Aid at Work Course?
FAW is worth considering for higher-risk workplaces, such as factories with machinery, workshops and construction sites. Its broader content helps First Aiders prepare for more types of injury and illness.
Your employer should check likely injuries, the people at work, shifts and cover for absences. A large office does not automatically need the longer course just because it has more staff.
For most regular offices, shops and everyday workplaces, Emergency First Aid at Work is the usual starting point.
Is Level 3 FAW the Same as Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)?
No. Both of our workplace courses are described as Level 3, but they cover different amounts of training. EFAW is the one-day course covering core workplace emergencies. FAW includes those skills and adds training in a wider range of injuries and illnesses over 3 days of learning.
If your employer has asked for First Aid at Work, choose FAW rather than assuming any course with “Level 3” in its name will do.
How Long Does the Certificate Last?
Our First Aid at Work certificate is valid for 3 years after you complete the course and assessment. Plan requalification before it expires so your workplace cover stays up to date.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) strongly recommends annual refresher training. Our online Annual Refresher course helps you revisit First Aid knowledge between courses. To renew your certificate, complete the appropriate qualification or requalification course.
